Welcome to another instalment in our ongoing series highlighting selected races across the UK. July is great for runners, summer is in full swing and there are various events on offer that cater to different levels of experience and terrain preferences. Here are three exciting races to consider:

1. Isle of Harris Half Marathon
Na Buirgh, Inverness-shire, 5 July
At the start line, look west and you'll see nothing but ocean stretching all the way to Canada. This sense of remoteness only intensifies as you journey east across the peninsula, then veer north before making your way down to the finish line in Tarbert. It's a challenging course, but undoubtedly one of the most stunning and fulfilling road races in the world. For more information, visit harrishalfmarathon.org.
2. Great North 10K
Newcastle, Northumberland, 6 July
If you want to participate in this fantastic 10K race, act fast, as it’s likely to sell out—and for good reason! This city-centre road race offers an unbeatable atmosphere. Starting near the Town Moor, the route crosses the Tyne Bridge twice and showcases some of Newcastle's most iconic sights, including Grey's Monument. Bands and entertainment along the course will keep your spirits high and your motivation soaring. To secure your spot, check out greatrun.org.
3. Serpent's Trail 50K
Petworth, West Sussex, 5 July
Named for its winding route through the South Downs from near Petworth to Petersfield, this event also offers a chance to spot some of Britain's three species of snakes—the adder, grass snake, and smooth snake—along the way! Runners will navigate mostly sandy trails through picturesque woodlands and fields. With a generous cut-off time of midnight for both the 8am and 10am waves, participants will have plenty of time for some excellent snake-spotting. To find out more, visit serpenttrailrace.com.
As we embrace the summer season, these races present fantastic opportunities to lace up your running shoes and hit the road. Stay tuned for more highlights from our running race series.
